So here's a decision I made pretty early on that I still have to defend occasionally: TenderNest doesn't have a feed.
No timeline. No follower count. Nothing to scroll. If you've ever poked around the app looking for one, the answer is there isn't, and there isn't going to be.
I didn't arrive at this in one clean moment of clarity, if I'm honest. It came out of being tired: tired of building things designed to be checked constantly, tired of the fact that every app I open eventually trains me to open it more. You know the feeling. You go in to do one small thing and forty minutes later you couldn't tell anyone what happened in between.
TenderNest is a "nest": a shared space between two people, a couple or two close friends, where you drop notes, photos, voice messages, whatever. And when you open it, you don't choose what you see. You pull something out at random. Could be from this morning, could be from six weeks ago. No control over which, and that's kind of the whole trick.
Once there's no feed, there's nothing to catch up on. No red dot nagging at you from the corner of your screen. You open it, you get one small good thing, you close it. Thirty seconds, maybe a bit longer if the voice note runs on.
I won't pretend this started as some grand anti-Big-Tech statement. Honestly, part of it was just me not wanting to build a feed, because feeds are a lot of extra work and a lot of moderation headache I didn't want yet. But the longer I sat with it, the more it felt like the actual point rather than a shortcut I'd taken. Small. Quiet. Easy to put down. There aren't many apps left that are even trying to be that.
